The orchestra to be used in Filmusik is a chamber orchestra arrangement based on the standard for photoplay orchestras in the age of silent film accompaniment. Many pieces of that era written to be performed to film were arranged to standards so as to facilitate easy preparation for the bandleaders and music directors of theatre houses. This orchestra calls for Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Timpani (along with other percussion instruments), Xylophone, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

The orchestra will be conducted in real time, visible to the audience but in the pit beneath the screen.
