Filmusik is a project working in support of live music and performance, creating new outlets and opportunities for musicians and composers.

Film was once an arena in which live and recorded media were synthesized to great effect - during the silent film era accompaniment music and musicians were commonplace and in great demand, accounting for half of all employment held by musicians and composers in the United States. Contemporary live film accompaniment, such as that done by the Alloy Orchestra and Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, demonstrates the power of this union of medias, and that its fall from favor was not in response to its dramatic shortcomings.

In Filmusik, the concert of recorded film and live music will be stunning: The conductor, orchestra and voice actors will be visible by the audience throughout the performance, there will be interludes between each animation and an intro and outro, giving the differing animations and compositions an overarching context and continuity.

Instead of looking back at the history of dramatic music and its performers in the early years of cinema, Filmusik aims to promote a new outlet for artists based on contemporary musical and dramatic sensibilities. Filmusik appreciates the vibrancy of live performance and suggests a new way to bring music into the lives of performers and listeners alike.
